Best Places for a Photoshoot in Seoul (2026 Guide)

(From a Local Seoul Photographer)

If you’re planning a photoshoot in Seoul - whether you’re visiting for the first time, planning a couple session, or booking a pre-wedding shoot, one of the first questions we always get is:

“Where should we shoot?”

Seoul has a lot of options. Historic palaces, modern city streets, quiet neighborhoods, riverside paths. It can honestly be overwhelming if you don’t know the city well.

I’m Jack Peneycad, one of the photographers at Modu Studios, and together with Jeff, we’ve been working as Seoul photographers for years, shooting couples, proposals, weddings, and travel sessions all over the city. These are the locations we return to again and again, not just because they look good, but because they work for real photoshoots.

Below are our favorite Seoul photoshoot locations, plus tips on who each spot is best for.

Gyeongbokgung Palace – Classic Seoul, Done Right

If you’ve ever searched for a photographer in Seoul, you’ve probably seen Gyeongbokgung Palace pop up, and for good reason.

This is the most iconic palace in the city:

  • Traditional Korean architecture
  • Open courtyards and mountain backdrops
  • A timeless, editorial look

It’s especially popular for:

  • Couple photoshoots
  • Pre-wedding sessions
  • Hanbok shoots
  • Solo traveller shoots

Pro tip from a local Seoul photographer:
Timing matters here more than anywhere else. Early morning or late afternoon makes a huge difference, both for light and crowd control.

We’ve photographed Gyeongbokgung in every season, and when planned properly, it’s still one of the strongest locations in Seoul.

Bukchon Hanok Village – Traditional, Quiet, and Intimate

Bukchon is one of our go-to locations for clients who want something traditional but more relaxed than a palace.

What makes Bukchon special:

  • Narrow streets with hanok (traditional homes)
  • Soft, natural light in the mornings
  • A calm, romantic atmosphere

Best for:

  • Couples
  • Engagements
  • Travelers who want a cultural feel without the scale of a palace

Because Bukchon is a residential area, having a local photographer in Seoul really matters here. It can be quite a busy area, so knowing where to shoot (and where not to linger) makes the experience smoother and more respectful. Please note that since two years ago, there is an enforced curfew in the area for travellers between 10am and 5pm.

Many of our couple and pre-wedding sessions combine Bukchon with nearby areas for variety. You can view our available shoot options and durations on our packages page:

Ikseon-dong – Trendy, Warm, and Full of Character

Ikseon-dong is one of our favorite neighborhoods for a modern-meets-traditional vibe.

You’ll find:

  • Vintage cafes
  • Hidden alleys
  • Warm wood tones and textured walls

It’s perfect if you want:

  • A casual, lifestyle feel
  • A mix of posed and candid moments
  • Something less formal than a palace shoot

As Seoul photographers, we often pair Ikseon-dong with Bukchon or Gyeongbokgung in a single session—it gives you variety without long travel times.

If you’re unsure which neighborhoods fit your style best, we always recommend looking through real client sessions in our portfolio before booking:

Euljiro – Cinematic, Urban, and Very “Seoul”

If you’ve seen our work, you already know we love Euljiro.

This area is gritty, cinematic, and full of personality:

  • Neon signs
  • Concrete textures
  • Small streets with incredible atmosphere, especially at dusk

Euljiro works beautifully for:

  • Couples
  • Editorial or K-drama style shoots
  • Clients who want something modern and cinematic

This is one of those locations where having an experienced Seoul photographer makes a huge difference. The magic here is in timing, angles, and knowing which streets come alive at night.

Many of our Euljiro shoots are booked as couple or engagement sessions, which you can find more details about here:

Han River – Open Space & Natural Light

For something more relaxed and open, the Han River is an underrated option.

Why we love it:

  • Wide paths and open skies
  • Soft light near sunset
  • Less pressure, more movement

Great for:

  • Casual couple shoots
  • Families
  • Travelers who want a laid-back feel

The Han River is often a great choice if you’re booking a shorter session or combining multiple Seoul photoshoot locations in one shoot.

Guro – A Hidden Gem for an Authentic, Retro Seoul Look

Guro is one of those neighborhoods most Seoul photographers wouldn’t think to take you to - and that’s exactly why we love it.

This area feels:

  • More local
  • Less polished
  • Grittier in the best way

You’ll find:

  • Older buildings and signage
  • Quiet backstreets
  • Industrial textures and everyday Seoul life

Guro is perfect if you’re looking for:

  • An authentic, lived-in Seoul atmosphere
  • A slightly retro or nostalgic feel
  • Photos that don’t look like typical tourist shots

As a photographer in Seoul, this is the kind of place we recommend to clients who want something different - something that feels honest, raw, and uniquely Seoul.

Choosing the Right Location (This Matters More Than You Think)

One thing we always tell our clients:
There’s no single “best” photoshoot location in Seoul - only the best one for you.

The right choice depends on:

  • Your style (cinematic, natural, traditional, modern)
  • The season
  • The time of day
  • How comfortable you are in busy areas

This is where working with an experienced Seoul photographer really helps. Location planning is just as important as the photos themselves.

If you want help choosing the right spot - or combining multiple locations - we walk all of our clients through this as part of the booking process.
